Sickle Cell

Manage, Thrive and have a Normal Life

My journey with sickle cell has been long and painful but now at the age of over 50 I’ve discovered that there are many things that we can all do that should enable us to have a normal and fully productive life. I’ve managed to increase my haemoglobin level close to the point where, if I was tested today, they would probably not record a diagnosis of sickle cell. My levels have risen by close to 15% and they are stable without drugs and I’ve not had a transfusion in years. I’ve had antibiotics very rarely and the future is not dominated by pain and hospitals. I’ve flown long distance at least 4 times in the last 2 years and I’ve been OK each time.

I understand my illness so much better and this site is all about sharing that knowledge with you.
